From the President

July's program will be a sharing of techniques, tools, patterns or anything you would like to share with others. Also while on the subject of sharing, don't forget your show and tell.

In August, our guest speaker will be Dave Disselbrett, a great
caricature carver from Salem. This will be a hands on program, so bring your carving tools. His programs are always popular. He will also be bringing information and samples on his class we spoke about last month. He will discuss subject choices, time, etc. at that time.

Remember to get your carvings ready for the fair. It is coming up soon !!!

Larry

Minutes from June 4th Meeting

The meeting was called to order by President Larry Deedon at 7:10pm

Treasurer Karl Rymer reported that since the club started, we have deposited $1,059.50 in the club account. $574 from dues, $168 from raffles and $317 from the sale of knives, strops and yellow powder. Expenditures have been $203 for materials to manufacture knives, strops and purchase yellow stone, $67.45 for badges and $5.95 for bank checks leaving a balance of $783.10 as of June 7, 2001

Wes Barton and Bob Smith were introduced as first time visitors.

Rich Knee reported that he had received a call from a Lane County Fair representative who was anxious to have our club represented at the Fair again this year. She asked if we could man a table on August 17 and 19. Rich said we need four or five members to help out. He asked that volunteers give a call if they are willing to represent the club.

Larry said Dave Disselbrett from the Salem Club is willing to offer a six hour caricature carving class for $15.00 per person. Rich Rombold offered his shop for the session. Larry asked for an indication of interest from the membership. Further details will be discussed at the July meeting.

A "carve-in" at the EWEB Leaburg Lake picnic area was discussed. Based on member interest, it was decided that this will be similar to last year’s potluck picnic and will be held on a Saturday in August. The specific date will be announced.

Rich said that Thursday, July 26, 2001 was selected by Woodcraft as a carving day demo. They asked that the club provide carvers throughout the day.

A representative from The Chippendale School of Furniture discussed some of the classes they are offering. He said Nora Hall will offer a wood carving class on August 4th and 5th . He also mentioned a ball and claw chair leg carving class for a cost of $60. (editors note; I have taken both classes and they are well worth the money.)

Richard Rombold agreed to assemble the friendship cane as a gift for Ted McGillvrey.

Club members agreed to continue meeting on a year around basis.

Rod Johnson will show his knowledge of holding devices, patterns and tools at the July meeting.
